Herceptin for 1 year is the foundation of care for women with HER2-positive early breast cancer

Currently, based on evidence from four major clinical trials in HER2-positive EBC, adjuvant Herceptin treatment should be continued for 1 year.

International guidelines (NCCN and St Gallen) mandate Herceptin for 1 year as the foundation of care for women with HER2-positive EBC.  The HERA trial will provide pivotal information on whether prolonging the treatment duration to 2 years offers additional benefit.

When Herceptin was investigated in neoadjuvant trials, treatment was continued after surgery for a total duration of 1 year.
