Herceptin in combination with other chemotherapies
There is continuing interest in new combination partners for Herceptin to further improve treatment efficacy and to provide treatment options for patients who are not candidates for taxane-based regimens.
Trials of Herceptin in combination with vinorelbine, gemcitabine and Xeloda have yielded high activity in HER2-positive MBC, both as first-line therapy and in pretreated disease.1,2
In the Traviota trial, comparable rates of efficacy were achieved with Herceptin plus vinorelbine or Herceptin plus taxanes (objective response rate 51% vs 40% and time to progression 8.5 vs 6.0 months, respectively).3
Herceptin in triplet-combination regimens
Herceptin has been evaluated as part of triplet combinations in several clinical trials including:
The addition of Xeloda or carboplatin to first-line therapy with Herceptin plus a taxane provided excellent efficacy in these trials, offering a further treatment option with Herceptin.
Table 3.2 Herceptin is highly active in triplet combinations for the treatment of HER2-positive MBC5-7
