Herceptin’s unique mechanism of action

Binding of Herceptin to HER2 leads to activation of the immune system and suppression of HER2, via several complementary and distinct mechanisms of action.

  • Activation of antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity resulting in destruction of the tumour cell.1,2

  • Inhibition of cell proliferation by preventing HER2-mediated downstream signalling.3,4

  • Prevention of p95HER2 formation, a truncated and very active HER2 variant, derived from HER2 by cleavage of the extracellular domain.3,5

  • Inhibition of HER2-regulated angiogenesis.6,7
